Art in Hand: Washington DC Deck o' Art

You've gotta click the gray link above this sentence to see the entire deck of unique playing cards designed by local artists.  The artists' were hand picked to showcase the diverse voices that make up the DC Metro art scene.  We were invited to create an original work of art for this interactive show.  I am stoked to share the link and ask that you also become a fan of the deck on FACEBOOK (there is a link on the page to click... just tap the button...it is really that easy!)I thought it would be fun to share, actually re-share the alternate images I created for my card- the 2 of Clubs.

Actually this one was my favorite?

WWII Monument was my inspiration for the card.  All three images were created atop of the Washington Post w/ acrylic, pastel and charcoal.
Now click the gray link at the top of the page and see the image that was chosen.  There is some buzz of a group show wherein the original works will be on exhibit at the Touchstone Gallery in June/July 2011, but this is still unconfirmed.  It would be really cool and I am optimistic.

The Eagle Has Landed On the Two of Clubs

This is the last post regarding my version of the two of clubs.  I'd love to hear which image of the three final images you'd like to see included in the Washington DC deck o' cards.  I did a newer version of the eagle sculpture from the WWII Memorial.  She is facing the other direction and has a few other tweaks as well.  I photographed the image making process yet again for your enjoyment.

Dr. MG Stout: Medical Advice for Like-Minded Maniacs

Today I feel like Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch are tap dancing with cleats on my head to the tune of Good Vibrations.  Let it be known these vibrations are sharing no sweet sensations!  Some people think that an over the counter pain reliever will save the day (sane individuals like my husband) and quell the imaginary battle taking place inside my skull. Bah!  I say to him.  I have the mental & intestinal fortitude to beat the noggin nuisance.  I am a tougher, stronger, and rational being with thumbs.  I will go to the tallest mountain and holler, today is my day bro!  I will not let this violent throbbing win.  I'm off to my headache room to deal with this invisible menace... Mary style.  For those with weak constitutions, you might want to scroll over the image quickly.
Here I am taking care of business.  After-while crocodile chomps on my grape just a little bit and now I feel good as new.  Modern medicine is for suckers.
I'm off to the studio as soon as I get the bleeding under control.

Assignment: Two of Clubs

A representative from Art In Hand Cards (a publishing company that translates original art work by  LIVING artists into playing cards) Brilliant!  Enjoy a gallery quality art exhibit right at your fingertips.  I've been invited to create an original piece of artwork to be included in their upcoming Washington DC Project. The idea is to showcase "the wide range of extraordinary artistic talent in the DC Metro area."  Each deck of 54 - 52 playing cards and 2 jokers are standard size and will be available this spring for purchase.
I've been assigned the 2 of clubs.
Mary with the 2 of Clubs...
I'm considering my image to be based on the WW2 Memorial.
Why? What is the connection?  Well I think it is pretty obvious:
A. clubs can be used as a weapon
2. the number two is in the title of the war
